Last Wednesday, April 19, the Punt TIC of the Municipal Employment Service of Girona City Council started the first of the digital training courses of the INTRO project , which will be taught until next Wednesday, June 28. The aim of the digital training program of the Girona City Council is to fight against the digital gap, facilitating the access of all citizens to the new information and communication technologies. Also, the initiative seeks to provide digital skills that contribute to improving employability.

This 2023, three different courses have been scheduled in two separate editions. Registrations for the first training proposals are open and are addressed to all citizens. The second edition of the INTRO project will be addressed primarily to residents of the Santa Eugènia and Can Gibert del Pla neighborhoods as part of the 'Work in the Neighborhoods' project. The topics of the two editions will be the same and will include courses in Digital Literacy, Basic Digital Skills (level I) and Basic Digital Skills (level II).

First of all, the Digital Literacy course (focused on computers and the internet) is 25 hours long and is scheduled from April 19 to May 4, Monday to Thursday, from 3:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. In this sense, the classes will deal with various contents such as the introduction to digital devices, digital content (viewing, storing and retrieving information), basic computer programs and applications, Internet browsing and basic applications (e-mail, discussion forum and video conferences).

Secondly, the Basic Digital Skills course (level I) is 60 hours long and is scheduled from May 8 to 31, Monday to Thursday, from 3 to 7 p.m. Specifically, the classes will deal with diverse content such as the basic use of the operating system, Internet browsing, searching and storing information, digital communication (e-mail and video conferencing), digital identity, basic IT tools (word processor and presentation) and basic security and troubleshooting.

Thirdly, the Basic Digital Skills course (level II) is 60 hours long and is scheduled from June 5 to 28, from Monday to Thursday, from 3 to 7 p.m. In this sense, the classes will deal with various contents such as the use and configuration of the operating system, the treatment of digital information (advanced research techniques, content curation and information storage in the cloud), digital communication (social networks ), digital identity, advanced computing tools (spreadsheets, databases, and image retouching), and basic security and troubleshooting (antivirus, security, and updates).

This year, the INTRO project has an approximate budget of 25,000 euros. Of this money, nearly 15,000 euros are financed by the Public Employment Service of Catalonia as part of the support program for territories with greater needs for territorial and social rebalancing, the 'Work in Neighborhoods' project, and the rest, 10,000 euros, it is assumed by the Girona City Council. Along these lines, last year, a total of 91 people were trained in digital training thanks to the INTRO project. In that edition, there was a greater presence of women compared to the previous year. Specifically, 65.93% of the total number of participants were women. Likewise, according to the age group, 73.62% of the participants were over 45 years of age.

With the INTRO project, Girona City Council seeks to ensure that everyone who needs it acquires basic digital skills and can take advantage of the wealth of new possibilities associated with digital technologies. In this way, it also complies with the recommendation established by the European Parliament and the European Council on the key skills for the lifelong learning of European citizens.
