As part of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a new audiovisual capsule has been produced by the Xarxa Punt TIC. This time, Júlia Sudan Catalan, telecommunications and computer systems technician, was interviewed. Júlia Sudan Catalan is currently studying computer engineering at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and works for an electrical engineering company as a medium voltage and low voltage technician. «In high school, I discovered programming. Specifically, I delved into robotics with Arduino by participating in a competition. I really liked the experience and the teachers also encouraged me to opt for technological courses», explains Catalan. «Currently, I have three projects underway. The main one is my work in an electrical engineering company as a medium voltage and low voltage technician. I also develop application and website prototypes and I support girls through mentoring», says Catalan.
In this sense, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science seeks to boost female talent and promote technological vocations among girls. «To them, I would tell them not to be afraid of anything. If you really like science, it's the same as failing two exams. If you are really passionate about technology, the negative comment is the same», says Catalan. Last year, Júlia Sudan Catalan was a finalist in the ICT Student Professional Training category at the ninth edition of the Premis DonaTIC. «I have never had close references. It is true that there are historical references such as Marie Curie or Ada Lovelace, who sadly did not get the recognition they deserved. I don't want to be a point of reference for anyone, but I want to help and encourage girls to enter technological environments and be themselves within them», concludes Catalan.
