As part of the eleventh edition of the DonaTIC Awards , organized by the Secretariat of Digital Policies of the Department of Business and Employment of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Lua Trevín Hernaiz has been awarded the DonaTIC 2025 Award in the 'ICT FP Student' category. The DonaTIC 2025 Awards are part of the DonaTIC Plan of the Generalitat de Catalunya and are benchmark awards to highlight and recognize the role and talent of women and increase the representativeness of the group within digital technologies, as well as offering new contemporary female role models and promoting vocations in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. From the Xarxa Punt TIC, we talk to Lua Trevín Hernaiz about the recognition.
1. What did receiving the DonaTIC 2025 Award mean to you?
At the school where I study, they knew about the DonaTIC Awards and told me that I was a very good candidate for these awards and that they wanted to nominate me. I have received a lot of support from both the management and the teaching staff of the school, as well as from the people who handle communication. The day of the DonaTIC Awards was incredible, being there, seeing so much talent and being surrounded by so many people who have done so many things filled me with a lot. When they said my name, I didn't know that I had won in my category, I couldn't believe it.
2. What has been your professional career?
I started in the IT sector with an average degree. When I finished secondary school, I initially wanted to pursue a university degree such as engineering or mathematics, but at the time I was in my personal life I didn't think I could get the grades I needed to get into it from high school. At home, they suggested to me that if I wanted to try out the technological field, a professional training could be a great option to do so and I decided to do microcomputer systems and networks.
3. What are your future challenges?
What I am clear about is that I want to end up in a place where I learn, in fact, I never want to stop learning, because computer science is a world that changes a lot. Right now, what I am looking for is a project that motivates me and that gives me the path to learn and grow professionally. Where will I end up? I don't know. There are so many possibilities, that narrowing down my sights is currently very difficult for me, it is very difficult for me. I want to learn, continue studying, continue discovering, continue growing, share and create something really important for the future of society.
4. Why is it important to promote STEM vocations among girls and women?
I think the most important thing is to try and find what you like. It's much better to try forty different professional families and make mistakes and, accordingly, find your path, find your vocation.
