This February, the Barcelona Library Service will promote the workshop 'Hypatia, the first scientist' so that children aged 6 to 8 can discover the history of the renowned astronomer and mathematician.
Within the framework of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which will be commemorated next Wednesday, February 11, and within the 'EstàsON' activity cycle, the Barcelona Library Service will promote the workshop 'Hypatia, the first scientist'. Designed for boys and girls aged 6 to 8, the proposal will offer a journey into the past to discover the history of the renowned Neoplatonic Hellenistic philosopher, astronomer and mathematician from Alexandria. In this sense, children will learn by creating, planning and building their own scientific instruments, such as, for example, the astrolabe or the hydrometer, and exploring some of the main concepts of ancient science in a fun, informal and participatory way. The aim of the Barcelona Library Service's proposal will be to promote children's curiosity, creativity and interest in science, as well as to make the work of women in technical fields visible and promote STEM disciplines.
