About 2000 women in Catalonia now have a different “toiletry bag” with ICT related tools like a screw driver, a network cable and a USB memory stick.

The Catalan word “necesser” means “makeup bag” or “toiletry bag”, an object closely related to female identities in our society, many women have this kind of toiletry bag with lipstick, powders, creams and some pills, and bring it literally everywhere.

But what happens when from a women’s makeup bag comes out a screwdriver, a network cable a USB adapter or any other technology related tool?

On February 9, 2024, the Smartcentre Santa Bárbara presented the NecesserTIC celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

This digital social innovation project wants to promote gender equality in ICT disseminating the role, power and dissemination of women in ICT.

The NecesserTIC is an open innovation project. In the first year we’ve been able to share and transfer the project to other rural and urban communities with have replicated the project and produced their own version of the ICT makeup bag.

The SmartCentre Santa Bárbara is a digital competence center in a rural village in southern Catalonia and part of the Punt TIC network.
